So way back in 2004 I started my first attempt at this series, I'm still working on it every once and an awhile but my focus has really started to shift towards my night landscapes. Well this was my very first attempt at the series, it's a very small painting and there are a lot of things that I did wrong but also some things I liked in it. Anyway, it's called "A Show of Strength" which was about a bunch of guys competing to open a jar of.... something. Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is because I also had this idea that each one of these would be based loosely on a Renaissance painting, this one I went as far as to just put a character from a Renaissance painting right in it. The guy with the beard is from Guercino's "Jacob Receiving Joseph's Coat." So I put up both mine and Guercino's painting. As you can see his is a lot better than mine... but LAYOFF I was still learning.
